Father Knows Best – Day 5

... and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:6

In summary, if we trust God, if we lean on him and acknowledge him ... what will happen? He will direct our paths. He will guide and instruct us. He will make our paths straight. And it's more than just a divine GPS system. The Hebrew translation means he will level and straighten our paths. How does that play out in our lives? Our journeys will become easier and quicker. He'll take the incline out. Every mountain will be brought low, and every valley will be brought high. He'll unwind the road ahead of us. He can perform miracles we could never do for ourselves!

If you know the story of John the Baptist, he was Jesus' cousin who went ahead of him with a public ministry, paving the way for him. But when God paves the way for us, we expend less energy, detour far less and waste less time. Our journeys won't be all over the place. If we want to take the scenic route, we can do it because we choose to, not because we have to. We will accomplish far more and still have time to stop and smell the roses. God makes our lives easier and better when we trust him with all our heart, lean not on our own understanding and acknowledge him. While he simplifies life, it doesn't mean we're immune from its challenges. We will have tribulation in the world, but we can cheer up. He will make even our tragedies easier: that lay off we had, the time in quarantine, the divorce, the death of a loved one. When it's something we're struggling to get over, God can show up in the middle of our battles – no matter who's at fault – and he can tell us what to do, he can level and straighten our paths, and he can work in us through it all.

Are you on a journey now that could use God's leveling and straightening? If so, you're in prime position for what he does best. Trust in him, lean on him and acknowledge him. If you're doing those things, know that your heavenly father is scooping you up and covering you with his goodness and mercy ... all the days of your life. He loves you unconditionally with an everlasting love that is greater than anything you're facing in your life.
