Flexible Faith - Day 3

Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.

Acts 16:6-7

Paul, Silas and Timothy were on a mission trip taking the good news about Jesus to people who had never heard it before when the Holy Spirit closed the door. He forbade them to speak the word in Asia and prevented them from entering Bithynia.

You might think, "What is going on here? Doesn't God want the gospel preached in these places?" Paul tried to go forward, but God closed the door. Has God ever held up a stop sign in your life? Perhaps he stopped a relationship, a job opportunity, a business deal or a trip? We may be tempted to blame Satan for the "stops" in life, but not all stops come from the enemy. God not only opens doors, he also shuts them.

Paul must have felt disappointed, discouraged and surprised by the closed door. Can you relate? We need to remember that God's plans are better than our plans. If we get stuck on our plans, we’ll miss God’s pivot. We need to trust that God will send us the right way, and sometimes that means stopping us from going the wrong way.

Are you feeling discouraged by a "stop" God has placed in your life? Spend some time in worship today, and give him the opportunity to show you the great plans he has for you!
