New Wine – Day 4

And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.

Mark 2:22

Wine is a biblical symbol of joy. It's served in celebration and received with gladness. But we can become so comfortable in our old wineskins that we don't receive new wineskin with joy. If we're still breathing, God's not done with us. He grows, stretches and gives us new wine skins all the time.

We have an expiration date; water doesn't. However, the bottle that houses the water expires because chemicals can leak and contaminate water over a period of time. Similarly, sticking to the old can contaminate the new, and all of a sudden, it starts to taste funny. A church that doesn’t change can start to smell funky. Irrelevant. Stale.

Are you grumbling and complaining about changes that are taking place? Changes God's making in you, through you and around you? What shifts do you need to make in how you think, celebrate and receive these changes with joy? Ask God to help you think higher, to find the joy in and openness to everything he has in store for you, as you embrace a new wine skin!
