Person, Power and Place – Day 3

Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters -- one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”

Matthew 17:4

Jesus took his three disciples up on the mountainside where he was transfigured (Matthew says his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light) before them. In the midst of this amazing moment, Peter makes what sounds like a reasonable suggestion: Let's build three churches right here. But Peter missed it (as we often do).

What Peter wanted to create would not be long-lasting because it's not about a building or what it was made of. The church is built on the confession Peter had made in the previous chapter: You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God. The church is all about Jesus! Jesus is the cornerstone of our faith. He is not A way to God -- he is the ONLY WAY!

If we don't have Jesus, we don't have church. We need to be careful not to let the world dictate to us what is acceptable or politically correct when it comes to Jesus. We will not fear or bow to culture. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Today, choose to build your faith by memorizing and thinking about this verse: For I am not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Romans 1:16
