She Is – Day 4

Watch over each other to make sure that no one misses the revelation of God’s grace. And make sure no one lives with a root of bitterness sprouting within them which will only cause trouble and poison the hearts of many.

Hebrews 12:15 TPT

Naomi was Ruth's mother-in-law who left Israel for Moab with her husband and two sons during a famine. But she returned to Israel a widow, having lost her husband and her sons. Once home, she said not to call her Naomi, which means pleasant, but to call her Mara, which means bitter because she went away full but returned empty. She was bitter against God for her sorrow, for her poverty and for her loss. But her story didn't end there. God had the final say, and Naomi's bitterness turned into blessing because of the incredible gift God gave to her in Ruth.

Life can have a way of beating us down. If we're not careful, we can develop a bitter heart, blaming God or others for our trials and problems. Maybe we feel like we were unfairly treated or like life is coming for us with constant struggle, heartache and suffering, as we experience trial after trial and battle after battle. We might be losing sleep or our appetite. We might even be wondering: God, where are you? Why is this happening? Could ANYTHING good come out of this? People are fighting battles we really have no idea they're fighting. During our darkest hours, the battle to keep our hearts tender is a real one! We have to tell ourselves that we're not alone, and he never fails! Our trials can be a new beginning and a fresh start. With God, it's never over, and a bitter life can become a blessed one.

Are you battling against bitterness? Or perhaps bitterness has already taken root? Faith is understanding your reality but recognizing there is a greater reality at work, believing God is working everything it out for your good. Take God at his word, and act on it. Pray, surround yourself with worship music, post scriptures everywhere to remind yourself God has the final say. What might seem impossible, God can completely turn around! If you're walking through a season of pain, grief, loss or hurt, you're prime for a miracle and a fresh start! Turning bitter to blessing is God's speciality!
