The Joy of Serving – Day 3

... Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself.

Philippians 2: 3-5 MSG

To live a life serving others, we first want to recognize opportunities. Paul told the church at Phillipi not to be obsessed with getting their own advantage. To seize an opportunity, we first must see the opportunity.

In today's culture, we spend a lot of time scrolling through social media, watching celebrity and influencer lifestyles. Is it any wonder our attention is focused on what others have or what we want for ourselves? Are we missing moments right in front of us to see others' needs? We won't get to what's next, if we're not faithful what what's before us now.

What opportunities to serve are in front of you? If you're not sure, pray and ask God to show you. Perhaps it's spending time with someone, babysitting for that couple who could use a date night, joining a team at church that sets atmospheres, cleaning out someone's garage or mowing a neighbor's lawn. Opportunities aren't missing, but you could be missing opportunities.
