Thirst No More – Day 3

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 4:13-14

It's hard to grasp just how improper it was for a Rabbi to be talking with an unknown, Samaritan woman. But Jesus breaks barriers, so he asked her for a drink. But what did he really want? She was preoccupied with his physical needs, but he was offering her a different kind of water --a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

Jesus didn't try to sell himself to this woman but instead engaged in conversation. She was stuck on the mechanics of how he'd physically drink water, but he was offering a spiritual water that could accomplish far more. How often do we have similar conversations with Jesus? We're asking for things to satisfy our outer needs -- finances, relationships, careers -- without going to him for our deeper, spiritual needs.

Are you asking Jesus to satisfy your physical or your spiritual needs? He can, most certainly, save the day, impacting the things on your outside. But today, why not ask him for the thing only he can do: fix what's hurting your spirit? The problems in us are far more dangerous than the problems outside of us.
